Alan Brener

Senior Consultant

Alan Brener is a senior consultant with FSC. He has extensive experience of retail and commercial banking having worked for Santander UK where he was responsible for the compliance and retail legal departments and regulatory policy. Prior to Santander, he was head of compliance for the retail banking division of National Westminster Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland. In the early 1990s Alan worked both as a prudential insurance and conduct of business regulator.

In 2014, Alan helped set up of the Banking Standards Board with the objective of improving standards of conduct and professionalism within the banking industry.

Alan specialises in the following areas:-

· Corporate governance
· Compliance systems and organisations
· Corporate culture and ethics
· Arrangements for “raising concerns” in businesses
· Maintaining the UK’s position in European financial services market

Alan is a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Ethics and Law at University College London (“UCL”). He is also a Teaching Fellow in banking law at UCL. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and has a LLM from UCL. Currently (as in February 2017), he is undertaking a PhD on aspects of banking regulation at Queen Mary University, London.
